The shared pipeline review that fixes alignment

Synergy Growth Advisors · Fractional CRO, Speaker & Author

If I could install one ritual in a company fighting the sales-and-marketing cold war, it would not be a tool or a reorg. It would be a single recurring meeting: one pipeline, both teams in the room, reviewed together. It sounds almost too simple to matter. In practice it does more for alignment than any platform I have seen bought to solve the same problem.

Why separate reviews keep the gap alive

In most companies, sales reviews pipeline and marketing reviews campaigns, and the two meetings never touch. Each team tells a coherent story to itself. Sales explains why the deals that slipped were always marginal. Marketing explains why the leads were strong and the follow-up was weak. Both stories are internally consistent, and neither is ever challenged by the people they implicate.

Put both teams in front of the same pipeline at the same time, and the private stories collide with a shared reality. That collision is the entire point.

Two teams reviewing the same pipeline separately will always arrive at two different quarters.

How to run it

The mechanics are not complicated, but a few things make the difference between a real review and a status meeting.

What changes over time

The first few of these meetings are uncomfortable, and they should be. Problems that were comfortably owned by nobody suddenly have both teams staring at them. Expect some defensiveness early. That is the old habit of separate stories dying, and it is a good sign.

Within a few cycles, the tone shifts. Because both teams now see the same pipeline and share the same number, the conversation stops being about whose fault the gap is and starts being about how to close it together. Marketing begins to care about what converts. Sales begins to care about what feeds the top. They are, finally, solving one problem instead of defending two positions.

You do not need to buy alignment. You need to schedule it, run it with discipline, and refuse to let either team retreat to a private version of the truth. One meeting, one funnel, both teams, every cycle. It is the cheapest and most powerful alignment tool you will ever deploy.
